Tips: use a lot of adjectives in the correct order

Sample Letter

You have just spent a weekend staying at the hotel in the Carpathian Mountains. When you get home you find that you have left a bag in the hotel. Write a letter to a hotel manager Mr. Peterson.

• say when exactly you stayed in a hotel;
• describe a thing you left in a hotel in detail;
• ask a manager to send it to you as soon as possible;

Dear Mr. Peterson,

I am writing to you with the expectation for doing me a favor.

I stayed in your hotel last weekend on the 23rd and 24th of December. My room number was 402. I left the hotel at 8 pm on the 24th of December. When I arrived home, I discovered that I had left one of my bags at the hotel.

This is a bag of medium size and square shape. The bag is made from pure cotton. There is an inside zipped pocket in the bag with some of my things. There are also two outside pockets with narrow straps.

Inside the bag you will find a pair of new jeans, of middle size and a new leather belt.

These things are really valuable for me, as they are a present from my friends from the Carpathian on my birthday.

Could you please check your Lost and Found Department and see if my bag is there?

I would appreciate it if you could contact me as soon as possible. If you could send the bag to me by courier service to my current address, I would be most grateful. I have arranged to pay for the service.

Ideas for writing

• ask how long it will take to deliver it;
• express your gratitude to a manager.

Additionally:

You come home from a holiday and, unfortunately ,discover that your house has been burgled. Write a letter to the police and describe the missing things in detail.

You come home after walking for a long time in rainy weather. When it stopped raining, you left your umbrella somewhere. Write a letter to Lost and Found Office, describe the lost umbrella in detail.

When you go out in the morning you discover that your car has been stolen. Write a letter to the police department with a detailed description of your car.

You have recently bought new furniture in your living room. You decide to sell the old furniture. Advertise the furniture in “For sale” magazine.

You have just spent a weekend at a friend’s house. When you returned home, you discovered you have left a coat containing some belongings in his house.Write a letter to your friend telling him that you left the coat. Tell him what the coat looks like, where you think you left it and what was inside it. Make some suggestions about how to get it back.
