Formal Letter Example

You have just spent a weekend staying at the hotel in the Carpathian Mountains. When you get home you find that you have left a bag in the hotel. Write a letter to a hotel manager Mr. Peterson.

• say when exactly you stayed in a hotel;
• describe a thing you left in a hotel in detail;
• ask a manager to send it to you as soon as possible.

Dear Mr. Peterson,

I am writing to you with the expectation for doing me a favor.

I stayed in your hotel last weekend on the 23rd and 24th of December. My room number was 402. I left the hotel at 8 pm on the 24th of December. When I arrived home, I discovered that I had left one of my bags at the hotel.

This is a bag of medium size and square shape. The bag is made from pure cotton. There is an inside zipped pocket in the bag with some of my things. There are also two outside pockets with narrow straps.

Inside the bag you will find a pair of new jeans, of middle size and a new leather belt.

These things are really valuable for me, as they are a present from my friends from the Carpathian on my birthday.

Could you please check your Lost and Found Department and see if my bag is there?

I would appreciate it if you could contact me as soon as possible. If you could send the bag to me by courier service to my current address, I would be most grateful. I have arranged to pay for the service.
